The Pakula Success Story

In 2012 we celebrated our 25th Anniversary, twenty-five years since Pakula Tackle was established as a full time business in 1987, though Peter Pakula has been making lures and inventing now commonplace game fishing components such as the Shackle Rig, 60 degree hook offsets and Witchdoctor Teasers since the early seventies.

In that time Pakula Lures and products have achieved some astronomical results. So many that we have not recorded them all. A few of the highlights follow: over 1,000 World Records, Australian Records, tournament wins, and trophies. Individuals such as Robert Curry and his boat "Marquis" have won over 100 trophies on Pakula Lures including the first and last marlin of the season in his club six years straight.

Since these early days of fame, Pakula Lures have won many of the Game Fishing World's most prestigious tournaments including The Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament twice, in fact Peter Pakula was a member of the winning team in 1996, the Cairns Lexus twice, the Compass Tournament, Bisbees Black and Blue, The World Series Billfish Tournament, Poco Texas, twice, The Kona Steinlager, The Golden Fleece, five times, The AIBT, six times, The Sanctuary Cove Celica Tournament six years straight including all three Celica Cars and many more.

Around 90% of Pakula Lures are exported to countries including Hawaii. mainland USA and South America, all Pacific Island groups including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Guam, Tahiti and Japan. Pakula Lures have won the major tournaments in all of them.

The largest: Black Marlin, Blue Marlin and Sailfish records in both New Caledonia and Vanuatu, Blue Marlin in Lord Howe Island;Black Marlin in New Zealand and the largest Black and Blue Marlin in 1994; the largest Yellowfin (91 kg) ever on a lure in Australia; the largest Blue Marlin (297 kg) in Sydney waters and many more.

Pakula's also account for the most of one species on lures in a single day; 16 Sailfish (Mooloolaba); 6 Blue Marlin (Gold Coast); 12 Blacks (Moreton Bay) and 14 Striped Marlin (N.S.W.). To top this off, Pakula's accounted for 3 Grand Slams in New South Wales in just one week.

Pakula Dojo Peche® Skirted Lures

All Pakula Dojo Peche® lures are pre-rigged with a stainless steel Dojo Hook made in Korea on high Quality Japanese full length leader to plus 7x7 wire from the hook to the back of the lure head. All rigs conform to IGFA regulations. Due to additives increasing the success of previous Pakula Lures™ all Pakula Dojo Peche® Lures have double the amount of UV additives plus a new additive from Switzerland.

Pakula Dojo Peche Sprocket™ - The SprocketTM is a long rigger lure, particularly in the colour LumoTM If you are only ever going to take one piece of advice from us then it's "Run the Lumo® SprocketTM on the long rigger, and leave it there!

Pakula Dojo Peche RatTM - The Pakula Rat™ is the short rigger lure. The has an aggressive swimming action with a wide head shake and great canon ball explosion when it breathes. It will hug the water at all trolling speeds and will work fine in all weather conditions. This lure works for all larger game fish.

Pakula Dojo Peche Medium Sprocket™ - The Pakula Medium Sprocket™ is a long rigger lure with a tight swimming action that will work in all conditions at any trolling speed. This family of lures has been responsible for a great many of the successes of Pakula lures. As Peter Pakula says: "always run one of the Sprocket family in Lumo colours, and never move it!"

Pakula Dojo Peche Mouse™ - The Pakula Dojo Peche Mouse™ is a short rigger lure that has no equal in this size. The most productive colours are Stripy, Fuzz and Frigate. The action is aggressive with a wild head shake. and will hug the water at all trolling speeds and will work fine in all weather conditions.

The Mouse™ has maintained it’s great reputation, quite simply because it works so well in this position!

Pakula Dojo Peche Phantom™ - The Pakula Phantom™ is a long corner, long rigger and shot gun special. Its straight, tight swimming action will continue in normal to moderately rough conditions at any normal trolling speed. Even when the fishing has shut down the Phantom still performs its spell catching lots of fish in waters where no other lures or even live baits are working.

The Phantom is one of the best lures of all time for both Sailfish and juvenile Black Marlin, especially in Evil Angel®

Pakula Dojo Peche Cockroach™ - The 'mighty' Pakula Cockroach™ works well in all trolling positions. It is primarily a short rigger lure, but works incredibly well in all trolling positions which is perfect for those just beginning their trolling career or when sharing rod positions on a boat needing to adapt to any position given.

The Cockroach™ has an aggressive action that hugs the water at all trolling speeds and will work fine in all weather conditions. This lure has gained an enormous reputation, quite simply because it is so easy to position and fish simply love it!

Pakula Dojo Peche Zipper™ - The Pakula Zipper™ is a long corner and shot gun special, which will work well no matter how far back you place it. Its straight, tight swimming action will continue in any sea conditions at any speed. This versatile little lure is a real favorite for light tackle and Tournament fishermen.

Pakula Dojo Peche Mosquito™ - The Pakula Mosquito™ is a true all purpose lure that will run in any position at any trolling speed in any weather conditions you fish. Although it is a tiny lure it certainly kicks up quite a commotion in the water with a very aggressive tight swimming action and over sized smoke trail the Mosquito™ has become one of our most successful lures particularly in the colour Hot Frigate.

Pakula Dojo Peche Uzi™ - The Pakula Uzi™ is a small version of the very successful Pakula Zipper™. Though we thought this lure would be great for small tuna, mackerel, bonito, kingfish etc which it has proven to be, we did not expect it to do as well as it has in catching marlin up to 300kg!!.

The Uzi™ has been in very high demand since its introduction. This lure has certainly excelled to such an extent many anglers actually stop using it at times because they have to stop every 100 yards to pull in the fish!!!

Pakula Dojo Peche Fluzi™ - The Pakula Fluzi™ was developed to provide a complete pattern of these very effective tiny lures. The Fluzi is great in rough weather in any position, but is primarily a short position lure for the Short Corner and Short Rigger.

Pakula Dojo Peche® Hybrid Skooners®

Pakula Dojo Peche Skooners are designed for maximum performance between 1.5 and 7 knots. They will work at faster speeds in calm conditions. When used in a standard trolling situation the Skooners are ideal for short positions such as long corner, long rigger and shotgun positions.

When used as a casting lure the Skooners are ideal for slow and medium retrieves.- All lures are pre-rigged with a Stainless Steel Dojo Hook on high quality Leader to IGFA specifications.

PAKULA DOJO PECHE® HYBRIDS

Rigging a Pakula Dojo® Peche Hybrid is very similar to rigging a standard skirted lure as it uses some of the same systems, but has in addition a method to help maintain the hook in the preferred position.

All Hybrid lures are sold pre-rigged so all you really have to do is copy the rig it comes with. However it is always better if you can understand the systems and concepts so you can vary the rig to your own specifications should you want to.

For example you may wish to use a lighter leader than supplied, or a different hook set up. Once you read the following you'll be able to vary your rigs without compromising the lure action and fish catching ability. Or you just may be someone who only trusts the rigs they make themselves, and don't trust pre-rigged tackle.
